Tenerife On Film: The Canary Islands

My first time shooting film abroad was on a trip to Tenerife in 2013, and for this reason these photos have become some of my favourites. I was stunned by the natural beauty of the island, especially since we stayed in a fairly touristy area. We took a walk around the cliff path, witnessing the powerful crashing of the waves against the red rocks below. The vibrant colours of the landscape lent nicely to the richness of the film I had chosen, whilst the infinite number of palm trees allowed me to experiment with my perspective.

I also had a rather heavy and cumbersome underwater film camera with me, which was a very challenging contraption to work with! I was pleasantly surprised that the prints didn’t come back blank as I had anticipated, but better than I had expected. The clouds created a moody light that I hadn’t noticed whilst spluttering around in the water, desperately trying to keep my head above water whilst the camera around my neck pulled me down.

All in all, it was the perfect location for my first film shoot!
